Honky Tonk, Tex Mex, Western Swing

Country Music as it used to
be!

Let me tell you about a story of the Men With Broken Hearts:
There were these dudes living south of the river. Sticky Steve and Tiny Tom we called 'em; Steve strummed some guitar and Tom thumped the bass.
One night they went on a spree, and after a couple of shots of Tequila they set on a journey to learn more about good ol’ country songs. “It’s just, there, south of the river, where we rest our heads, it’s only us who play that style of music. Nobody around to ask,” Sticky Steve rambled, but it might have been the tequila talking?

They decided to travel west. Rumor goes that the finest country musicians roam the towns behind the dusty plains where the sun goes down.
It was a ride fraught with mischief and misery, but their old rig eventually got ‘em there. They visited every music joint and honky tonk where they could find a band and a beer. Guitar slingers, blues screamers, harp blowers, tub thumpers, steel guitar wizards, country fiddlers and even a one-handed bass player held court.
They heard honky tonkers, bluegrass pickers, mariachi horns, western swingers, Tex Mex families and fellers playing the blues so lonesome it made your tears cry!

They rambled back home, and it was there that they ran into a squeeze box player, hanging in the alley behind a bar, just teaching his dog tricks. Jealous Joe was his handle. He’s from way out east they were told, they say he plays the slickest accordion far and wide.
Now, up until then, Sticky Steve and Tiny Tom had done fine as a duo, but a trio sounds even more fun! And what’s the hell, no money splits up the same whether it’s two or three! They bought a round and moseyed home as a trio.

Upon arrival, they were most yearningly greeted by their sweethearts. Word around town was of a new steel guitar player. “Allegedly, he’s from an island far north,” they all said. But no one had crossed his path, like a ghost rider in the sky, hiding from the sun.
News travels in mysterious ways, and lo and behold, this here stranger just shows up…precisely at the moment Sticky Steve, Tiny Tom, and Jealous Joe linger on the front porch to play!
He introduced himself as Pickin’ Paul. “I do play the steel guitar”, he says, “and I can make that there music of yours wail like a baby that just got a spankin’.”
From that very moment the Men With Broken Hearts were born. Did they name themselves that because of that heartbreaking song of Hank Williams, or maybe because just like every country song, someone always loses a girl or a truck?

Here's some footage of the men with broken hearts. shot during their trip back home, when they popped into the house of the rising sun where they treated the ladies to some of their songs:
